Qari Basheer Patel
Born in Roodepoort, South Africa, Qari Basheer Patel is a distinguished Islamic scholar and educator. He began his Hifdh-ul-Quran under Maulana Ebrahim Mia and completed it under Maulana Muhammad Kaka. Pursuing advanced Islamic studies, he spent two years in New Town, Karachi, and later graduated in Dars Nizami and Qira’atul Ashr al-Kubra from Dabhel, India, under the tutelage of the renowned Qari Ahmedullah al-Qasimi.
In 2007, Qari Basheer enrolled for an honors degree in Semitic Languages at the University of Johannesburg. His teaching career includes positions in Warrenton and Newcastle Darul Uloom. In 1992, he returned to Lenasia to serve as Imam at Shan-ul Islam Masjid, where he also established a Hifdh class.
Demonstrating a commitment to community development, Qari Basheer co-founded the Al-Tawheed Institution, focusing on da’wah and education for revert Muslims. He also established Jamiat-ut Tawheed, emphasizing Quranic and Qira’at sciences, and has awarded Sanads in the 7 and 10 Qira’at to various Qurra. Notably, he co-founded the South African National Quran Council (SANQC), organizing Quran competitions nationwide and facilitating South African Huffaadh’s participation in international events.
In addition to his educational endeavors, Qari Basheer has been a board member of Radio Islam International for over a decade and currently serves as its chairman. He is also a founding member of Hilal TV and an executive member of the Jamiatul Ulama South Gauteng Branch.
